Article imageThe most characteristic for the plaice is the bright red spots. But this spots can vary in both colour and shape. A light sandy bottom gives the plaice a light brown colour with bright red spots. A Bottom with dark stones and mussel beds gives the plaice a darker colour. The plaice can be up to 95 cm and 8 kilo. The plaice likes it best on deep from 10-30 metres, but can also be found down to several hundred metres deep. It prefers sand-, gravel- and mussel bottoms. It mainly feeds on small fish, shrimps and mussels. If you want to fish for plaice you should use a tackle with a running boom, 30-150g lead and hooks around size 1. Use shrimps, sand worms or small fillets of fish as bait.
